Ship Security Officers (SSO) Course

Allied International Risk Ship Security Officer (SSO) training course is accredited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA); it provides you with the essential knowledge required for safe shipping transit and movements and is the baseline requirement for individuals looking to work in maritime security.

Along with the many practical solutions you will learn about, we also offer training in the most important aspect of Maritime Security, planning; the most useful form of defence against piracy is having a detailed plan involving preventative measures and response procedures in place, should an attack occur.

If you are looking to train your personnel you may request that specific extra subjects be taught, depending on your main operating areas, the types of vessel operated, levels of anti-piracy equipment carried, or specific concerns.

The SSO course will include:
• Overview of ISPS Code
• Security assessment
• Security plans
• Duties and responsibilities of SSO
• Security administration
• Instruction techniques for security training
• Knowledge of current security threats and patterns
• Recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices
• Techniques used to circumvent security measures
• Methods of physical searches and non-intrusive inspections
• Security drills and exercises
• Security program implementation and internal audit programs requirements

Proficiency in Designated Security Duties
The training for designated security duties is essentially a subset of the SSO training package, however, unlike the SSO training programme there is no prerequisite sea service requirement.

To be awarded the Ship Security Officer (SSO) certificate you must meet the MCA prerequisite of 12 months sea service or be able to show an equivalent level of seagoing experience and knowledge of ship operations. Candidates without this pre course experience will therefore be awarded a Certificate of Proficiency in Designated Security Duties, allowing them to gain employment within the Maritime Security Industry.
