The STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping) Basic Safety Training qualification came into international effect in 2010, introducing a minimum international standard for all professional mariners working/looking to work on vessels over 24m in length.
The training itself makes you aware of safety procedures that will keep yourself, your crew members and passengers safe.
• Personal Survival Training: Use of survival kits, life rafts and other survival techniques
• Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting: Basic fire fighting skills – prevention of fires and how to deal with those that may occur
• Elementary First Aid: Basic first aid
• Personal Safety and Social Responsibility: Personal safety training, accident prevention, PPE and actions in an emergency
The STCW Basic Safety training can also include the Proficiency in Security Awareness module for delegates that do not intend to work in the private maritime security industry.
